Home and Away has been airing for more than three decades now. The Australian soap centers on the residents of the fictional seaside town called Summer Bay. Initially, the focus was on Tom and Pippa Fletcher, portrayed by Roger Oakley and Vanessa Downing, along with their foster kids.
As the show continued airing, we became acquainted with several more intriguing characters. Most of the cast members who headlined the series have now become Hollywood A-listers while a few chose other paths. Let’s revisit the show and figure out what happened to the actors and actresses who played some of our favorite characters.
Nic Testoni as Travis Nash
Before his debut on the show, Nic Testoni was already well known in the world of modeling. He had also co-hosted Level 23, a ‘90s music show, before taking up the role of Travis Nash in Home and Away. Naturally, his good looks earned him the title of the “dreamboat fisherman.”
Travis was a character introduced in 1995, and he was the type of person everyone described as easy going and an all-around great guy. Travis stuck around Summer Bay for four years before finally deciding to move on. It is later revealed on the show that he settled in Canada with his wife Rebecca Fisher (Jane Hall), and they had a son together.
Nic Testoni Now
Testoni’s looks have changed a lot, understandably, now that it’s been more than two decades since he left the show. The one constant that stands is his involvement in showbiz, but these days his focus is on behind the camera.
Testoni penned and produced the award-winning 2004 documentary, Mr. Patterns. It earned him the Emerging Australian Filmmaker award, and ABC-TV broadcasted the documentary. Testoni also served as a producer and guest presenter for the ABC music series Recovery.
Melissa George as Angel Parrish
Melissa George had already made strides in the world of modeling and roller skating before making the progression to acting. She moved to America to try her luck on the big screen, but she only landed smaller roles. Her big break came when she joined the cast of Home and Away as Angel Parrish.
Angel Parrish controversially got into a relationship with her foster brother Shane Parrish. They made an incredibly gorgeous couple and undoubtedly kept us glued to the screen.
Melissa George Now
Melissa George didn’t have any trouble landing roles in Hollywood once she left Home and Away in 1996. George featured in notable films like The Limey, Mulholland Drive, and The Amityville Horror.
George also takes roles on the small screen appearing in shows like Alias, The Good Wife, and In Treatment. George shares two sons with her former partner, Jean David Blanc. George and Blanc parted ways in 2016 after George accused him of domestic violence.
Dieter Brummer as Shane Parrish
In 1992, Summer Bay got another heartthrob when Shane Parrish moved to town. Parrish was the typical bad boy who was always up to no good. If he wasn’t busy stealing cars, then he was caught up in other misdeeds like starting fires.
Parrish eventually slows down when he starts dating Angel, and they even end up tying the knot. Parrish was yet another character from the show who was killed off, and in his case, it was a motorbike accident that spiraled into a gut-wrenching death.
Dieter Brummer Now
Dieter Brummer got the role when he was just 15. Brummer left the series in 1996, and he was vocal in saying that there was life after the show. Brummer was right because he ended up appearing in Celebrity Circus and Medivac, amongst other shows.
He couldn’t completely shake off his Home and Away days with awards for being the most popular actor. Brummer also got into a publicized fallout with his former Home and Away castmate, Melissa George.
Bec Hewitt as Hayley Smith
At the age of five, Bec Hewitt had a foot in the entertainment industry when she started working on commercials. Hewitt landed an acting role in Police Rescue and finally in Home and Away as Hayley Smith.

Heath Ledger as Scott Irwin
Scott Irwin was an up to no good type of character at Summer Bay High. Scott still managed to charm Sally Fletcher, but his intentions weren’t honorable. He only wanted to use her to help him cheat on an upcoming test.
Sally goes along with his plan, but after they land in trouble, she comes clean. Scott doesn’t take the betrayal well, and he goes to great lengths to try and frame Sally for stealing. It all fails, and Scott is expelled.
Heath Ledger Now
The late Heath Hedger did justice to the role, and it opened up the doors for him to headline other hit productions. Ledger set off to the United States and appeared in acclaimed films like Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight.
Sadly, Ledger died in 2008 from an accidental overdose. He had a history of abusing prescription medication stemming from difficulties with sleeping. Ledger was survived by Matilda Rose, the daughter he had with actress Michelle Williams.
Simon Baker as James Hudson
James Hudson appeared in only 19 episodes of the show between 1993 and 1994. James made a strong impact none the less, between teaching photography, and getting into a relationship with Roxanne “Roxy” Miller (Lisa Lackey).
As soon as James and Roxy’s relationship hit the rocks, his character exited the show. The writers wrote him out by having James leave town to pursue a better job. James and Roxy try dating long distance, but they wind up ending things altogether.
Simon Baker Now
Simon Baker gave life to the role of James Hudson, and it was amongst his initial acting gigs. Baker had previously appeared in E Street, and after leaving Home and Away, he joined the cast of Heartbreak High.
These days he’s best known for starring in the CBS dramas The Mentalist and The Guardian. Baker has also appeared in films like The Ring Two and Land of the Dead. On the personal front, Baker has been married to Australian actress Rebecca Rigg since 1998.
Isabel Lucas as Tasha Andrews
Like several other cast members, Isabel Lucas had auditioned for another role on the show but didn’t get the part. She tried out for Kit Hunter, but the producers thought she didn’t suit the role. Fortunately, she impressed them so much that they created the character of Tasha Andrews for her.
Tasha turned up in Summer Bay, and she could only communicate in Pig Latin. It turns out that she grew up with folks who were survivalists. Tasha ends up being lured into becoming a cult member, and the cult leader holds her captive when she later gives birth.
Isabel Lucas Now
Lucas eventually moved on from the show for greener pastures. She made her way to Hollywood and appeared in films like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Lucas has also kept on working on the small screen as a series regular in MacGyver.

While West didn’t resonate well with viewers, Collopy’s portrayal of the character earned him a Logie Award nomination. Collopy went on to feature in shows like Jesters and Packed to the Rafters.
Kristy Wright as Chloe Richards
Chloe Richards had a dramatic storyline on the show right from her introduction. Chloe’s biological father abandoned her, and her estranged mother rejects her. Fortunately, Irene Roberts (Lynn McGranger) fosters her, but she soon sets off in search of her father.
Chloe ends up falling prey to drugs, her schoolwork suffers, and she becomes a victim of physical abuse. Kristy Wright did a great job of bringing the character to life until she left in 1999. Her character briefly reappeared on the show in 2005 before being killed in a vehicle crash.
Kristy Wright Now
After her exit from the show, Wright turned to the big screen, appearing in movies like The Crop and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Wright’s career slowed down in the mid-2000s because she chose to take a step back and focus on raising her son.
Wright even moved back to Australia, after finding fame in Hollywood, and she settled into life as a single mother. Wright has been making a comeback, and in 2017 she appeared in the film Ravenswood.
Nicolle Dickson as Bobby Simpson
Nicolle Dickson beat about 400 actresses who tried out for the part of Bobby Simpson. Bobby was involved in the show right from the pilot episode. Her storyline is mostly about finding her parents.
Bobby ends up marrying Frank Morgan (Alex Papps), her foster brother, and it was a sensitive issue that the scriptwriters included only after receiving approval from the show’s viewers. Dickson wasn’t always on the same page with how her character developed, and in 1993 she left the show.

Tammin Sursok Now
Initially, when Sursok left the show, she explained that she simply wanted to concentrate on her music career. She moved to the United States and signed up with Sony Music Entertainment. In 2005, she released her first album, and it was a success.
